Emergency Closure - July 31

Following an evaluation of road conditions after discovering a sinkhole, Veolia has implemented a full closure of Floating Feather Road between Eagle Road and Ballantyne Lane to further investigate the cause and begin permanent repairs.

The sinkhole formed beneath the westbound lane on July 30th, with a surface opening approximately three feet in diameter. Below the pavement, the underground void extends about seven feet horizontally. Veolia initially performed temporary patching over the opening, and flaggers routed traffic into the eastbound lanes during the early assessment. After further evaluation, a full closure was determined to be necessary to immediately begin the extensive work required for long-term repairs.

The duration of the closure is currently unknown. A timeline will be provided once the full extent of subsurface damage is determined. Every effort will be made to reopen the roadway before the start of the school year.

Veolia is coordinating closely with the Ada County Highway District throughout the repair and restoration process. ACHD will continue to monitor the condition of the roadway and support detour management. Traffic impacts and project updates will be shared as new information becomes available.

The closure applies to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic. Commuters should use either Ballantyne Lane or Eagle Road up to Beacon Light Road (please see the posted detour map). Local access will be maintained for residents.
