Tell us what you think about proposed pedestrian enhancements and traffic calming measures!

ACHD is designing corridor improvements to improve 8th St. and 9th St. for all users. The project will improve road surface conditions, stormwater drainage systems, and adjacent ADA ramps on residential streets identified as part of ACHD's Pavement Management Program. The project will include curb/gutter and sidewalk accessibility improvements, filling sidewalk gaps, and bulb-outs, and will consider various traffic calming elements, and enhanced crossings.

Project segments:

  • 8th Street from Union Street to Lemp Street
  • 9th Street from Fort Street to just north of Heron Street
  • All cross/side streets between 8th Street and 9th Street

Additional design components include:

  • Bulb-outs at every intersection on both 8th Street and 9th Street as a starting point
    • Bulb-outs will be evaluated for major constraints (i.e. utility conflicts, grading and drainage concerns, design vehicle routing, etc.) and could be removed if constraints are too adverse
  • Full reconstruction of curb and gutter along 9th Street
  • Retain and protect most curb and gutter on 8th Street
  • Improvements to the Fort Street and 9th Street intersection including bulb-outs and conversion to Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS)

The public will have multiple opportunities to view and comment on the proposed design as it progresses. Residents near the project area will receive mailed invitations to participate or you may register for email updates using the STAY INFORMED function on this page.

ACHD will work closely with the North End Neighborhood Association (NENA), the City of Boise, emergency services, Boise School District, and other project stakeholders/proponents as the design progresses.
