We are reaching out for public comment about the proposed bicycle and pedestrian crossing across Chinden Boulevard at 43rd Street. Currently, Chinden Boulevard poses a significant barrier from the Boise Bench to the Greenbelt to people walking and biking due to high motor vehicle volumes, the five-lane cross section, and limited locations for crossings. To address these challenges a pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is being proposed across Chinden Boulevard at 43rd Street. The project location is shown in the following exhibit.
The crossing would improve connectivity for people walking and biking by providing access from Boise's West Bench neighborhoods to the Greenbelt and surrounding area. It would also enable people walking and biking to travel on 43rd Street as a low-stress route and alternative to Curtis Road and Veteran's Memorial Parkway. There are multiple attractors for people to walk and bike to in the vicinity of the crossing, including the Boys and Girls Club, Anser Charter School, and Future Public School. Garden City is also home to many wineries, cafes, and restaurants north of Chinden Boulevard drawing people from around the area.
The proposed crossing is federally funded and the current planned construction year for the crossing is 2025.

Provides a refuge for people walking and biking across Chinden Boulevard
Crosswalk Striping
High visibility striping to draw attention of motorists to potential crossing
Green paint for bike lane crossing that provides visibility and separates people walking and biking
