Five Mile Overpass & Roadway Project, Franklin Road to Overland Road

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is widening the Five Mile Road overpass and roadway between Franklin Road and Overland Road. The project includes:

Widening Five Mile Road from Overland Road to Franklin Road to two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane.
Replacing the existing overpass spanning Interstate 84 with a wider structure, with two lanes in each direction and a multi-use pathway on each side, to accommodate additional interstate width in the future.
Adding curb, gutter and a detached multi-use pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Adding enhanced pedestrian crossings on Five Mile at Saranac Dr. and Martingale Dr.
Updating the existing pedestrian hybrid beacon crossing at Five Mile Road and Smoke Ranch Drive.
Making upgrades at the Five Mile and Franklin Road intersection to accommodate Five Mile Road changes.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the early 2026 public outreach and took the time to share final comments on the Five Mile Overpass and Roadway Project between Franklin Road and Overland Road. We appreciate your input - especially your feedback related to construction - and it will be taken into consideration as we move into the next phase.
A brief summary of the comments received is now available for your review.
Next Steps
The next steps include purchasing the property necessary for the project. Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2030.

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is widening the Five Mile Road overpass and roadway between Franklin Road and Overland Road. Construction is anticipated in 2030.
ACHD first shared the design with the public in summer 2024 and has been refining it over the past year and a half. We’re now inviting the community to take one final look before the project moves into final design.
While your comments are always welcome the survey closed February 12, 2026.
