The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is designing future improvements for Linder Road between Franklin Road and Overland Road.

The proposed design includes an overpass spanning Interstate 84 and widening Linder Road to include additional travel lanes and facilities for those that walk, bike and roll. The design also proposes extending Linder Road from Overland Road to the new overpass.

Idaho Materials and Construction is set to begin construction on Phase 1 of the Linder Rd, Overland Rd to Franklin Rd project on March 24th, 2025.

Construction is scheduled to be finished by late September 2025.

This phase of the project consists of constructing the new north leg of the Overland Rd and Linder Rd Intersection, a large retaining wall for the new north leg, updating the signals to change from a three way to a four way intersection, installing 10’ multi-use pathways to complete connectivity through the intersection, and adding bike ramps at the intersection to transition cyclists off of the road and onto the multi-use pathway. The south leg will be closed from just north of Spanish Sun Way to Overland Rd during the second half of the project. Detours will be provided, and temporary traffic calming measures will be implemented in adjacent neighborhoods to address cut-through traffic. Phase 2 of the project, which includes the new overpass and road widening on Linder Rd from I-84 to Franklin Rd, is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is starting Phase 1 of the Linder Road Overpass and Roadway Project as early as mid-March 2025*. Work is expected to be complete in Fall 2025.

    Work will include:

    • Reconstructing the Overland Road and Linder Road intersection, adding sidewalk, bulb-outs and a multi-use pathway.
    • Extending Linder Road north of Overland to I-84 to prepare for phase 2 when the overpass will be constructed.
    • Constructing an access road to future stormwater basin.

    What to expect:

    • Lane Restrictions: Both roads may have a reduced number of travel lanes occasionally, but flaggers will be present.
    • Intersection closures: The intersection may be temporarily closed at times to safely facilitate construction and/or utility work.
    • Pedestrians and Bike Route Detours: Detours will be in place to keep pedestrians and bicyclists moving safely.
    • Construction Activity: Expect general construction noise, including equipment backup alarms, dust and ground vibration.
    • Business Access: Access to businesses will stay open, and the contractor will work with property and business owners to keep entrances clear or provide alternate accesses.

Phase 2, the overpass and work north of I-84, is expected to start mid-2026.

    *Schedule subject to change.

The City of Meridian was recently awarded over $4 million in state transportation funding for this project. To utilize the funding, ACHD is splitting construction of the project into two phases. This phased approach aims to reduce overall duration and minimize impacts to the adjacent neighborhoods, most notably north of I-84.

The first phase will focus on constructing improvements at the Overland Rd and Linder Rd intersection and a portion of the new roadway that will extend from Overland Rd to I-84. Please note this work does not include the overpass structure or any road widening north of I-84. Construction for Phase 1 is currently planned to begin in early 2025.

The second phase of construction is currently programmed to begin late 2026 through 2027. This phase includes the I-84 overpass and the widening of Linder Rd from I-84 to Franklin Rd.

As we approach construction there will be additional notifications and updates. To stay informed subscribe to project updates!
