This project is substantially complete.
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin construction on Kootenai Street, Orchard Street to Vista Avenue as early as the end of July or possibly as late as mid-September 2022.* Construction is expected to be complete June 2023. The goal of this project is to create a more pedestrian and bicycle friendly environment that preserves and enhances the neighborhood.
*Due to high demand for contractors, labor and supplies, the date range is designed to give the contractor flexibility so they can begin the project when resources are available.
Traffic and Construction Impacts
Lane restrictions
Short term closures
Temporary pedestrian & bicyclist detours
Equipment back up alarms and ground vibration
General construction noise, dust and temporary on-street parking impacts
The contractor will coordinate with property owners to maintain access
Crews will work between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., unless otherwise approved
Improvements will Include
Installing sidewalk, curb and gutter on the north side of Kootenai & widening existing bike lanes.
Adding chicanes & bulb outs.
Adding a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) for a school crossing at Johnson Street.
Constructing pedestrian ramps at the Owyhee & Shoshone intersections.
Replacing traffic signals at Roosevelt & Latah intersections.
Retaining the majority of on-street parking on the south side of Kootenai.
Suez waterline work.
Commuters are reminded to obey all road closure signs and follow the signs along the detour route. Commuters should never attempt to drive, bike, or walk on closed portions of the road, regardless of whether there appears to be active construction. It is unlawful to move or manipulate construction signs and doing so can put commuters and construction workers at great risk.
