What's going on?

ACHD is developing a concept design for Mitchell Street from Victory Road to Arabian Street, which includes exploring bicycle and pedestrian improvements, traffic calming, and enhanced crossing opportunities along Mitchell Street.

The aim is to identify potential improvements that will serve the growing demands of our diverse community while preserving the unique character of the neighborhood.

This project is outlined in ACHD’s Integrated Five-Year Work Plan (“IFYWP”) and the Southwest Ada County Alliance Neighborhood Association Master Plan(External link) and is being developed to help ensure that the street meets the community’s needs.

    What’s Next?

As the Mitchell Street project moves into the design phase, several key elements and additional considerations will be addressed:

    • Victory Road Intersection: The intersection of Victory Road and Mitchell Street will be re-evaluated to determine whether to install a fully signalized intersection or an enhanced bicycle/pedestrian crossing.
Note: The Victory Corridor Improvement Project will expand Victory Road from two to five lanes and add upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities on both sides of the street, in accordance with the adopted Bike Master Plan and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

    • Burnette Street Crossing: The addition of curb bulb-outs will be considered to enhance pedestrian safety and visibility at the Burnette Street crossing.

    • Pinch Point Areas and Buffer Adjustments: In areas where space is limited, the design team will explore ways to reduce buffer widths to protect existing trees and landscaping.

Additional analyses may be conducted during the design phase to respond to site-specific challenges and ensure the final plans reflect community goals.

A design year has not yet been programmed, and construction timing is still to be determined.
