Starting as early as March, the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will start construction on the 15th and 16th Street Pedestrian Crossings at Front Street. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and increase connectivity for pedestrians. Construction is expected to be complete late summer of 2024.*

Project Description

  • Install a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) across 15th Street at Front Street
  • Install a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) across 16th Street at Front Street
  • Reconstruct adjacent pedestrian ramps to meet modern standards

A Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) is a type of enhanced pedestrian crossing that uses flashing signals and signage to increase pedestrian visibility.

*Construction schedules may change due to high demand for contractors, labor, and supplies.

    • Front Street will be closed between 14th & 15th Streets through late May.
    • Work on the east side of 16th & Front is scheduled for late May through late June.
    • Work on the west side of 16th & Front is scheduled for July.
    • 16th Street will be closed the week of June 3rd for City of Boise sewer work.

    Construction Impacts

    • Temporary road closures
    • Pedestrian detours and sidewalk closures
    • Lane restrictions with flaggers
    • General construction noise, dust, equipment backup alarms and ground vibration
    • Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. unless otherwise approved
    • The contractor will work with property owners to minimize impacts
