Starting Monday, February 17, 2025, 2nd Street will be closed from Pine to Idaho until mid March.

Beginning next week, Broadway Avenue in Meridian will be closed as part of ACHD’s 2025 Meridian Downtown Pavement and Pedestrian Improvements project.

Starting Monday, Broadway Avenue will be closed from East 3rd Street to East 6th Street.

To get around the closure, commuters should use either North Main Street or East 5th Street up to East State Avenue (see detour map).

These roads are expected to reopen at the end of May.

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin construction on the 2025 Meridian Downtown Pavement and Pedestrian Improvements project in late January 2025, with completion expected by fall 2025.

The project includes pavement and pedestrian improvements on the following streets:

• Broadway Avenue, East 3rd Street to East 6th Street
• Cherry Avenue, West 4th Street to Meridian Road
• East 2nd Street, Idaho Avenue to Pine Avenue
• East 4th Street, Broadway Avenue to State Avenue
• Idaho Avenue, West 8th Street to Meridian Road
• Maple Avenue, West 1st Street to Meridian Road
• West 2nd Street, Cherry Avenue to Cherry Lane
• West 3rd Street, Pine Street to North End
• West 4th Street, Broadway Avenue to North of Maple Avenue
• West 5th Street, Carlton Avenue to Washington Street
• West 6th Street, Carlton Avenue to Washington Street
• West 7^th Street, Washington Street to the pathway South of McFadden Avenue
• Washington Street, West 7th Street to Meridian Road

Please note that there will also be waterline work on Carlton Avenue between West 6th Street and West 5th Street (see map below).

Expected Construction Impacts:

• Temporary road and lane closures
• Pedestrian detours and sidewalk closures
• Lane restrictions
• General construction noise, dust, equipment backup alarms and ground vibration
• Temporary on-street parking impacts
• Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. unless otherwise approved
• The contractor will work with property owners to minimize impacts and maintain access

Night work is not anticipated for this project. Additionally, no work will occur on West 1st St., West 4th St., West 7th St., or Washington St. while school is in session unless ACHD grants prior approval. A detailed construction schedule has not yet been submitted by the contractor. Based on public input and further technical review, the team has made a few changes to the project design.

The improvements now include

• Filling in sidewalk gaps and replacing deteriorated sidewalk to improve connectivity
• Adding bulb-outs and narrowing travel lanes where appropriate to improve safety
• Upgrading and/or installing pedestrian ramps to meet modern standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• Adding crosswalk markings for school walk route crossings (new)
• Stormwater and irrigation upgrades to improve flows
